4-8 Year Old Youth Development:
Considerations for Parents & Coaches
Join us for a conversation with Nick Levett, Head of Coaching for UK Coaching, as we explore the development for some of the youngest ages in our sport.
The young athlete is often missed in our sporting structures when it comes to youth development. Nick will be discussing:
- What he’s learned and observed as his son has grown up around and in sport.
- Optimal coaching environments for young children to develop a life-long passion for activity/sport.
- Key considerations for parents of the younger child when it comes to movement, curiosity, athlete development and fun.
- Areas for coaches to develop deeper understanding in meeting the needs of 4-8 year old children.
- And more!
About Nick:
Head of Coaching, UK Coaching

Nick Levett is married and the father of one chirpy son. Nick feels at home in complexity, strong with divergent thinking and creativity, asks insightful questions, challenges the status quo, and is comfortable in randomness. While he knows coaching, he considers himself still learning and believes that we should look to seek understanding before giving opinion (but is still not good at that skill). He likes to make a difference, see joy in other people and is comfortable with sharing his emotions.
